The light was captured by amateur photographer Jan Petter Jorgensen while he was on his way to work at a salmon factory. "The light appeared for 2-3 minutes. I could not believe my eyes, and got the shivers and was quite shaken by it", Mr Jorgensen said. Morten Kristiansen, who saw the light phenomena from Sortland in northern Norway, added: " A large ring appeared, and then spread out, sending a green beam down to earth, "

Deadsville conifer plantation The story here is of destruction of wildlife. This shows the floor of a planted coniferous forest in Ireland. At the edge of the forest, there is some vegetation, but, within a few metres, there is virtually nothing growing on the forest floor. Unlike native woodland, where sufficient light reaches the forest floor to support an abundance of wildlife, coniferous plantations like this block out most of the sunlight so that virtually nothing grows. The food chain is chopped at the root and the native wildlife departs. Huge areas of wild mountain land in Ireland (and Britain) have been planted in this manner with massive displacement and loss of wildlife. Michael Murphy
